Troubleshoot an SSL Certificate

Check DNS, hostname coverage, validation access, certificate chain and application redirects in a controlled order.

Written by HostPora Academy Team · Technical review by HostPora Technical Review · Updated Nov 4, 2026

Step 1

Verify public DNS first

The hostname must resolve to the service performing validation. Check both IPv4 and IPv6 because a stale AAAA record can send validation elsewhere.

  1. 1Check A record
  2. 2Check AAAA record
  3. 3Confirm authoritative nameservers
Step 2

Confirm validation and coverage

Make sure security rules do not block validation and that the issued certificate includes every hostname visitors use.

  1. 1Review validation logs
  2. 2Check www hostname
  3. 3Inspect expiry and issuer
Step 3

Fix application delivery

After the certificate works, correct mixed content and redirect rules. Avoid redirect loops between the application, panel and proxy.

  1. 1Load HTTPS directly
  2. 2Review browser console
  3. 3Keep one redirect owner

Common questions

Resolve the details before changing production.

What causes a hostname mismatch?+

The certificate does not include the exact hostname opened by the visitor.

Why does the browser still show an old certificate?+

Traffic might reach another address, proxy or server, or an upstream cache might still serve the old certificate.

What is mixed content?+

An HTTPS page loads an HTTP image, script, stylesheet or other resource, weakening the secure page.
